According to author and philosopher Roman Krznaric, the 20th century was the age of introspection. Our culture told us the best way to discover who we are was to look inside ourselves. This hasn’t led to the good life, however, and he believes the 21st century needs to be the age of “outrospection,” where we discover ourselves by stepping outside of ourselves. Only when we learn about others and look at the world through their eyes can we drive positive change. Empathy is a powerful, collective force that can improve the world as we know it.
