A Former RN Gets Medical Supplies That Hospitals Waste to Areas That Need Them
In the United States, federal regulations require hospitals and clinics to discard clean, unused supplies after discharging patients. In 2007, a registered nurse named Elizabeth McLellan started to gather these supplies and store them in her home. She then opened a warehouse where they could be shipped to people around the world. Her efforts became Partners for World Health, an organization that sends entire shipping containers of supplies to areas in need. Elizabeth shows the power and effect we can have when we go beyond self-interest and take that first step toward making a positive difference.
