Formerly Homeless, She Now Gives Back by Leaving Essential Items on City Walls and Fences
Holly Jackson was once homeless after escaping an abusive relationship. Because she was employed at the time, she was denied assistance. “To have to humble yourself and ask people for help and then not get it makes you feel really bad and I never want anyone to feel like that if I can help it,” she says. To help meet the needs of the homeless population in Cleveland, Ohio, she founded Walls of Love, an organization that collects everything from toiletries to school supplies and secures them on fences and walls throughout the city so that those in need can help themselves. So far, she has created 150 walls and donated more than 16,000 items.
