NYC's Coolest Jazz Scene Takes Place in This Mom’s Small Apartment
After Marjorie Eliot’s son, Phil, passed away on a Sunday, she and her other son, Rudel Drears, started hosting jazz music sessions every Sunday in their Harlem apartment. The concerts were originally a way to honor Phil, and are now legendary and attract people from every corner of the world. People fill the kitchen, the living room and even the hallway! “When you play music you get all your angst out and it’s a healing feeling,” Rudel says. The concerts have taken on a life of their own, and the experience is something people don’t forget.
