This Nurse Went Above and Beyond to Help Save Her Patient’s Life—Outside of the Hospital
As a nurse, Lori Wood has been helping others for 35 years. But when she learned the plight of one of her new patients, Jonathan Pinkard, Lori’s caring spirit truly kicked into overdrive. Jonathan, 26, is autistic. When he was diagnosed with heart failure, doctors told him he had six months to live unless he got a heart transplant. Tragically, Jonathan was unable to even get on the waiting list because he was homeless following the death of the grandmother who raised him. So Lori took him into her home and provided the stable environment needed to qualify for a transplant, and in doing so, added to her family.
